Duo return!
Romanian champions FC Dinamo 1948 Bucuresti have bolstered their squad ahead of their bid to make the UEFA Champions League for the first time by signing Valentin Nastase and Ianis Zicu.

» Dinamo, who captured the signature of forward Florin Bratu from FC Nantes Atlantique for €700,000 on Friday, bring Nastase and Zicu in on four-year contracts. Central defender Nastase, 32, has been capped three times by Romania and returns to the club he played for between 1999 and 2002 from Ascoli Calcio 1898, ending a five-year spell in Italy. Zicu also arrives from Serie A, joining from FC Internazionale Milano for whom he failed to make an appearance - being loaned out to Parma FC, AFC Rapid Bucuresti and Dinamo, where he is returning for the fourth time. Capped five times by his country, last season he scored 12 league goals in 30 appearances for Rapid. www.UEFA.com

Bratu rejoins Dinamo from Nantes!
Striker Florin Bratu has joined UEFA Champions League hopefuls FC Dinamo 1948 Bucuresti with the Romanian side paying FC Nantes Atlantique a €700,000 fee.

» Bratu returns. Capped ten times for Romania, the 27-year-old former AFC Rapid Bucuresti player has signed a four-year contract with Dinamo as they prepare to start their UEFA Champions League campaign in the second qualifying round. Bratu joined French side Nantes from Rapid in 2004, but spent the 2005/06 season on loan at Dinamo before being loaned to another Ligue 1 outfit Valenciennes FC for the current campaign. www.UEFA.com

Dinamo ready for bigger challenge!
Having taken the Romanian title with four games to spare, FC Dinamo 1948 Bucuresti are hoping to break into the UEFA Champions League group stage in 2007/08.

» Draw enough. A 1-1 draw at FC Politehnica Iasi was enough for Dinamo to build up an unassailable 13-point lead over CFR Ecomax Cluj-Napoca and bring the curtain down on a two-year period of dominance for their rivals FC Steaua Bucuresti. After enduring something of a barren patch while Steaua reigned in 2005 and 2006, Dinamo have shone this season. Forward Ionel Danciulescu said: "We worked hard, we dominated the championship from the start until the end, but it was worth it." Coach Mircea Rednic added: "Nobody can doubt that we deserved the title. I want to congratulate the players, because they understood that without discipline and hard work you cannot achieve great things." www.UEFA.com
» Dinamo played European football in the spring for the first time in 17 years as they reached the UEFA Cup Round of 32, but their domestic form was the greatest measure of Rednic's side's success. Beaten just once in the league all season, they have won 22 of their 30 top-flight games to date and boast both the most potent attack and the most miserly defence. Their only disappointment on the home front was bowing out to CS Pandurii Lignitul Târgu Jiu in the last 16 of the Romanian Cup. www.UEFA.com
» Not for sale. Now the UEFA Champions League is the priority. Club director Cristian Borcea said: "If we had qualified for the group stage, maybe one or two players would have left because we have had offers for plenty of them. However, [with Dinamo starting their campaign in the third qualifying round] nobody will be leaving and we will have to buy several good players to qualify." www.UEFA.com
» Quality players. Thus, the likes of Bogdan Lobont, Catalin Munteanu, Claudiu Niculescu, Ionel Danciulescu, Cosmin Moti, Stefan Radu, Cristian and Adrian Cristea are going nowhere for the time being. Indeed, if Dinamo can deliver on their promise and take the club into the group stage next season, they might arguably all feel that their interests are best served by continuing the fight with Dinamo. www.UEFA.com

It was a tale of two penalties as striker Claudiu Niculescu (8 min) scored a spot kick for Dinamo and Clement Palimaru did the same for the hosts at the end of the match www.GOAL.com

FC Dinamo 1948 Bucuresti have won the league title for the 18th time following a 1-1 draw against FC Politehnica Iasi on Saturday.

» Niculescu strike. Claudiu Niculescu moved to the top of the scorers' charts when he scored his 16th goal of the season after eight minutes, converting the first penalty to be awarded to Dinamo in the league this season. The champions looked set to be crowned with a narrow victory only for Clement Palimaru to equalise for Politehnica in the third minute of added time. The draw was nonetheless sufficient to spark celebrations for Mircea Rednic's side, who are now 13 points clear at the top with four matches left to go. www.UEFA.com

» Dinamo raced into a 3-0 lead after just 33 minutes. Catalin Munteanu opened the scoring on six minutes, Ionel Danciulescu doubled the lead at the mid point of the first half and Claudiu Niculescu made it 3-0 shortly after the half-hour with a delightful free-kick. Two minutes after the restart Valentin Badea pulled a goal back from close range but the visitors' three-goal lead was restored four minutes after the interval when a mistake by Steaua captain Mirel Radoi allowed Niculescu in for his second goal of the game. Tottenham - DINAMO (14 December 2006) !!!
Both sides are already sure of a UEFA Cup Round of 32 place, but FC Dinamo 1948 Bucuresti coach Mircea Rednic wants to wrest top spot in Group B from Tottenham Hotspur FC in London.

» A point at White Hart Lane would be enough to see Spurs top the group and avoid the clubs entering the competition from the Champions League - such as Werder Bremen and Benfica - in Friday's draw. Jol has recently stated his desire to take the club as far as he can in the UEFA Cup, and Spurs will be keen to maintain their impressive 100 percent record in the competition this season. But the Dutchman has admitted that several key first-team players are carrying minor knocks and could be rested for more important games. www.EuroSport.com
» Like Spurs, the Dinamo have already qualified for the knockout stages, although victory at White Hart Lane will see the Romanians top Group B. Dinamo have six injured players, including influential striker Claudiu Niculescu. Ze Kalanga, Iulian Tames, Denis Serban, George Galamaz are also out, while George Blay is doubtful. www.EuroSport.com

» The two clubs have eased their way to finish in the top three with nine and seven points from their three previous games. Tottenham will hold on to top spot if they avoid defeat at home to the Romanian outfit and will be anxious to do so, as the quality of opposition promises to be a lot less than if they end up finishing second. The group winners play against a team that finished third in the other Uefa Cup groups, which after Wednesday’s action would be the likes of Feyenoord, Zulte-Waregem, Hapoel Tel-Aviv or Fenerbahce. In comparison the Champions League failures include Werder Bremen, Benfica and CSKA Moscow. www.GOAL.com

» After winning their opener 2-1 against Besiktas, Dinamo drew 1-1 at Club Brugge and confirmed their qualification with a 2-1 win against Leverkusen. A win at White Hart Lane would see them claim top spot in the section. www.UEFA.com
» "I want to win in London," said Rednic. "I will not be satisfied with second place. I want to be first in this group, not only because being second we might play against a very strong team eliminated from the UEFA Champions League, but also because, as a famous Romanian player [Cornel Dinu] once said: 'You only feel like a real footballer after you have beaten an English team.'" www.UEFA.com

Leverkusen crash as Dinamo qualify !!!
FC Dinamo 1948 Bucuresti booked their place in the UEFA Cup Round of 32 as a goal in each half from Claudiu Niculescu secured a hard-fought victory over Bayer 04 Leverkusen in Romania

» Niculescu took the honours but only after his side had recovered from the setback of Sergej Barbarez's opening goal for a Leverkusen team who were seeking their first Group B success in their third outing. The veteran Bosnia-Herzegovnian struck on the break on 22 minutes, heading in a Paul Freier cross. www.UEFA.com
» However, Dinamo continued in the form that has brought them an eleven-point lead at the top of Divizia A, and were level before half-time. After surviving a spell of pressure from the visitors, the hosts equalised through Romanian international Niculescu's speculative low shot from outside the area that flew past Jörg Butt. It revived hopes of a second win in as many group-stage home matches. www.UEFA.com
» Dinamo keeper Uladzimir Hayeu was forced into action after half-time, blocking an effort from Simon Rolfes. Then Barbarez, who was looking the man most likely to unpick a defence, had a header parried by Hayeu. Despite allowing Dinamo the territorial initiative, though, the Bundesliga outfit had been fairly untroubled until the 74th minute when Ioan Ganea broke down the left to cross for his strike partner Niculescu to score. The same player may then have had a third for Dinamo but his stoppage-time free-kick was saved by Butt. www.UEFA.com

FC Dinamo 1948 Bucuresti ended their UEFA Cup Group B tie against Besiktas JK with nine men and three points after an action-packed 2-1 win in Romania.

» Brazilian striker Deivson looked to have earned a share of the spoils for the Turkish visitors when he cancelled out Adrian Cristea's first-half opener, but the last three minutes of normal time brought three red cards and, most importantly, a decisive penalty converted by Dinamo's Claudiu Niculescu. www.UEFA.com

(02.11.2006 / 20:30 [RO] - Live on TVR International)

DINAMO !!!
» An extraordinary turnover of coaches has almost overshadowed Dinamo Bucharest's run of 13 straight victories since the start of the Romanian season.
» Prolific strikers ! Mircea Rednic's side lead the Divizia A table with 39 points and are within one victori of equalling their own record of 14 straight wins at the start of the 1988/89 campaign. They boast the best defensive record in the league while forwards Ioan Viorel Ganea (10 goals) - making him the league's leading scorer, Claudiu Niculescu (6) and Ionel Danciulescu (7) have contributed 22 goals between them.

Skoda Xanthi FC 3-4 FC Dinamo 1948 Bucuresti

» Completing another fine week for Bucharest teams, last season's group stage entrants Dinamo won an entertaining game in Greece. Xanthi, looking for a first European win, went ahead on eight minutes through Diego Quintana. That roused the visitors and ten minutes later Claudiu Niculescu's header met Ionel Danciulescu's cross. Danciulescu then scored himself in the 25th minute, running on to Andrei Margaritescu's clever through-ball, before Niculescu struck again from long range. Xanthi pulled one back before the break thanks to Quintana, and Vlasis Kazakis levelled on 66 minutes. However, with six minutes left Cristian Pulhac's left-footed shot gave Dinamo the last say.

FC Dinamo 1948 Bucuresti 1-0 Beitar Jerusalem FC

» Dinamo made the best of a rain-soaked pitch to take a narrow lead against a well-organised Beitar side. Despite leading scorer Claudiu Niculescu leaving the team without explanation in the hours leading up to the game, Dinamo dominated the first half, with Ioan Viorel Ganea denied by Beitar goalkeeper Izhak Korenfien three minutes before the interval. Dinamo's Cristian Pulhac made crucial interventions to block shots from Roni Gafni and Amit Ben Shoshan in the second half, but the hosts eventually broke the deadlock with Catalin Munteanu converting Pulhac’s cross with style after 77 minutes.

    Dinamo Bucharest wants neutral venue
Dinamo Bucharest will ask UEFA to move the match against Beitar Jerusalem to a neutral venue because of the conflict in the Middle East, club officials said.

» "Unfortunately, that's an area of open conflict, and this could create additional anxiety to Romanian players and fans who want to see the match, aside from the emotions of the match," Dinamo chairman Nicolae Badea said.
» "This is not about fear, but about the additional stress that could affect the teams' balance," he added. "I don't think it's normal to play a soccer match under the tension of a conflict."
» Dinamo is scheduled to play Beitar in Bucharest in the UEFA Cup's second preliminary round on August 10, with the return match in Israel to be played on August 24.
